Q: What are the Purpose and Principles at Clairdays Karate Studio?
A: Our goal at CKS is to provide the best martial arts training and facility for you and your family. Master Robert Clairday, 6th Degree Black Belt has over 27 years training in the martial arts field. Instructor Melissa Clairday is a 3rd Degree Black Belt and holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. She has taught for 10 years and specializes in Early Childhood Education.  CKS has given a great deal of thought and consideration to the curriculum that is characteristic of our school. We are prepared to offer individual instruction as is needed. We at CKS will challenge each student to work towards earning their Black Belt. However, it is the student’s responsibility to adhere to the rules and policies set forth in this manual.

Q: What are the Admission Procedures and Requirements?
A: CKS has a variety of martial arts programs which are different at any location.  We offer trial programs lasting 3 or 6 months.  Prices vary at each location so it is best to make an appointment to meet with one of us so that we can discuss what might be best for you and your family.  Schedules are subject to change so please refer to the office for specifics.  Upon joining CKS, it is our policy that the first month’s tuition is paid up front. After initial sign-up, all additional monies will route through ASF International, our billing company. It is our goal to be on the floor offering instruction rather than collecting money.
Q: What are other costs that may arise?
A: Testing fees, equipment and uniform costs, private lessons, and tournament entry fees are some expenses that you may incur. Also, leaving your child to be monitored for a class for which they are not participating in will require a fee as well.

Q: What are rules for Dojang?
A:
1. Obey the instructors at all times.
2. Bow when entering and leaving the Dojang.
3. No loud or offensive language. It is expected that students use ‘yes/no- sir or mam’ when speaking to the instructors.
4. If there is a problem with something, don’t gossip about the problem among the students. Handle the issue with the office to resolve.
5. While sparring with someone, just remember ‘safety first’. Keep contact to a minimum.
6. Keep Dojang clean. Help pick-up the school. If your family or friends make a mess, please clean up before leaving.
7. Report all problems to the office.
8. Bow before talking to an instructor or senior belt. This reinforces our concept of respect.
9. If your children attend training with you but are not part of the class, it is your responsibility to monitor them for safety and behavior issues. Please bow out of class if it becomes necessary.
10. Loyalty is a requirement for training at CKS. It will be shown to you and is expected in return.
11. CKS sponsors two (2) tournaments per year. It is mandatory that you compete at these tournaments. The first tournament is in January and the second is in March.
12. No contact sparring unless an instructor is present.
13. Absolutely no climbing on equipment.
14. No one is allowed in the office except office personnel or someone who is conducting business.

Q: What should I do if I have a medical or special needs(s)?
A: If you or anyone within your family has special medical or health needs, please be sure to inform us to that we can support and act accordingly if the need arises. This is especially important if you participate in a workout and have previously known health concerns. This includes prior surgeries for the back, knees, heart, etc. You are required to inform the office of any medications that you may be taking that may be hazardous to you while working out. These include medications for mental or emotional problems.
If you have been charged or convicted of a felony, please inform the office about this. Failure to do so will result in expulsion from the school.

Q: What should I know about equipment and safety issues.?
A:
1. Uniforms must be worn during training. T shirts are okay in the summer if they pertain to Clairday’s karate.
2. Safety equipment including mouth pieces must be worn while contact sparring.
3. No tape covering the contact surface of the sparring equipment will be allowed.
4. All uniforms must be washed and without offensive odors. No strong colognes or aftershave as some people are sensitive to perfumes.
